Ministry Spotlight: Cornerstone Catholic Scripture

You’re invited to Cornerstone Scripture Study.

We pray you are putting the lessons learned at the Catholic Men’s Conference of Southern Missouri in action to become the man God made you to be. We are already planning the next conference. Please mark your calendar now: Saturday, February 26, 2022, in Springfield, Missouri.

But we don’t want to grow weak in the ā€œoff seasonā€ between conferences. We plan to share regular updates (by email and on social media) with valuable information and empowering opportunities to strengthen your faith.

Previously we shared information about a parish-based men’s ministry called That Man is You.

Today, we’d like to focus on the Word of God – His Holy Scripture. St. Jerome said, ā€œIgnorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christā€. Conversely, one could say, ā€œTo know Scripture is to know Christā€. The Cornerstone Catholic Scripture Study is an excellent way to improve our knowledge of Scripture – and of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

The study was created by a group of lay people in St. Louis, MO in 1984 and today includes over 1,200 men and women in 19 branches throughout the country.

Different books of the Bible are studied each year. A study typically consists of 20 lessons that start in the fall and finish in the spring with a long break at Christmas. A lesson usually includes about 20 minutes of daily prayer and study followed by a weekly meeting with others in the group to discuss, pray, and share what we have learned.

I joined the Cornerstone Scripture Study about ten years ago, not knowing what to expect. I must say it has exceeded my expectations. I always look forward to the study starting up each year in the early fall and always miss the study when it ends in the spring. The daily regimen of opening the Bible, studying the scripture, applying it to life, and praying has been invaluable on my faith journey. I feel I’ve grown closer to Christ and closer to my Cornerstone brothers and sisters in Christ.

In southwest Missouri we currently have two chapters:

  • Thursday mornings at 9:30 am at Holy Trinity parish in Springfield
  • Tuesday evenings at 7 pm at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish in Springfield.

Classes are forming now and will start up in mid-September. Sessions last about two hours. If you are interested in signing up, contact me or another member of the Cornerstone Scripture Study. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me with the contact info below.
